Life is full of just those “normal” routine days. We tend to live for the weekends, holidays, or vacations. Do you ever get to the end of the day and feel regret for the things you didn’t do or realized the day passed and it wasn’t how you wanted to day to go at all? Maybe you had something you had wanted to accomplish, and you completely forgot, or the day just got away from you somehow. What does it take to make your day better? How can we be more productive and effective with our day, so we feel more fulfilled? Here are 3 tips to make your day go from an okay day to a great day!

The first tip is to begin your day with intentionally thinking about the outcome or the things you would like to get done that day that are important to you. It may be helpful think about how you want to feel at the end of the day. What is one thing you will feel disappointed in yourself if you didn’t do it by the end of the day? Reflecting and thinking through what is important to you is something you should get in the habit of doing each day. Don’t let the days just go by and happen to you. YOU decide what you want and make it happen!

Pick at least 1 and no more than 5 tasks for each day. The reason why this is important is because you want to feel accomplished and happy not stressed and overwhelmed with all the things you need to get done. The important thing is to be realistic with your day and the time you have available. I would suggest using a planner and organizing your day to know what part of your day is free to accomplish these tasks and how much time you have. Some days you may only have time for 1 simple 5 minute task and other days you may more time and can add to the list. Knowing your availability will also help you be more kind to yourself. Sometimes we give ourselves a hard time for not doing more when the reality is maybe we didn’t have the luxury of doing one more thing that day. We can be really hard on ourselves at times and I want you to have a realistic understanding of what you can tackle each day.

My next tip is to make sure the tasks are things that matter to YOU! These things you want to accomplish must be things that you personally feel are valuable to your life and your happiness. They can not be things that your spouse, children or family think you should be doing. These are things that fill your bucket and make you feel happy. They make you feel like you are doing the important things you want in your life. They give you joy knowing that you are adding these things into your day and making time for the things you value. Sometimes it helps to remind yourself why you value these things and why they are important to you. That will give you the motivation to get started.

Let me give you some examples…. taking a nap, reading a book, exercising, walking your dog, meditating or praying, baking, organizing closets, writing a book, watching a movie, working on a project, learning a new skill, playing an instrument, calling a friend, preparing meals, organizing photos, running errands, buying gifts, planning a party or vacation, going to lunch with a friend, working on your side hustle, making a craft etc.

If you made time for one of the activities above each day, at the end of the day would you feel more accomplished and happier with your day? Would you feel proud of yourself for making the time for something you feel makes you a better person?

My final tip is to celebrate the wins. When you do get the things done and checked off your list for the day, instead of thinking of the things you didn’t do that day, I want you to celebrate what you did do! Give yourself a pat on the back. Be proud of yourself for making the time for the things that are important to you. When you do one small thing each day, it adds up to big things over time!! It also affects how you feel about yourself and your life. You no longer get to the end of your day feeling disappointed in yourself for not doing those things that matter. You can now say you are making those things a priority and accomplishing tasks that are important to you and your happiness.

I hope this inspired you to think about what is important to you and how you can fit it into your day. Don’t let life keep passing you by and not doing the things that you want in this life. Your life matters. Your goals matter. You needs matter. Your happiness matters. Figure out what you need from each day to feel happy and accomplished in your life and start taking steps each day to make it happen. You got this!
